1. Not everything you read online (about chips for horses) is true!
2. When choosing a ‘type’ of chip for your horse, be sure to get the latest and most accurate information. ‘Type’ refers to the radio frequency at which your chip will operate and perform.
3. The only type of chip recommended for horses is the international standard, or ISO. It is 15 digits long. It operates at 134.2 kHz.
4. Using older technology (less than 15 digits) places your horse at risk going forward, as many scanners will not detect these types of chips in the future.
5. We manufacture only ISO Standard Certified microchips. They are recognized worldwide and can be read by universal scanners used across the USA. So, don’t let someone ‘sell you’ on using an outdated non-ISO type of chip.
6. Any veterinarian or equine rescue should have a scanner that reads all chips. They are easy to find.
7. We will upgrade your existing scanner (if it does not read all chip types) for a minimal price. If you need one, call (800) 434-2843.
8. There are lots of microchip registries. Only one is exclusively for horses. If you want your name and contact info connected to your horse, enroll the chip in our Equine Protection Registry.
9. A microchip is like a VIN number or a Social Security number for your horse. Make it count.
10. If you have questions, call us. We manufacture what we sell. We will give you straight and honest answers.
